Why visual media is leading in content

Why visual media is leading in content

You may have noticed in recent times when logging onto your business or personal Facebook account the increasing amount of videos on your wall. It’s no coincidence that visual media is growing as we make the transition to 5G devices with faster, more mobile capability.

There really is no stopping the upcoming king of content marketing – visual mediums are increasing, and are increasingly being preferred by small business and big business alike.

So what are the dominant visual mediums in the content marketing world that are beginning to stand out more than they ever have? Business owners are opting to develop more:

  • Videos – it wasn’t long ago that consumers would have struggled to view a video on their mobile devices, due to limited data usage or slow download speeds. Today, it’s becoming the norm to watch videos while on the go.
  • Infographics – these visual representations of data or information can work extremely well on phones, whether you design them to be scrolled down or flicked through to the next screen. They’re easy to view and you can digest the main points quickly.
  • Interactive videos – still in their infancy, interactive videos let customers interact through a video format with the business, its brand, or its new product or service.
  • High definition images – some of the most attractive websites on the Internet are enhanced with high-resolution photos that attract and draw consumers in.

A shift to social ‘visual’ media

We’re now increasingly using social visual media to communicate online. Messages, new products announcements, special deals, events, and news are now commonly presented in visual form, able to be rapidly devoured as a more entertaining type of content.

There was once a golden rule that might have been forgotten for a while – ‘a picture says a thousand words.’ We’re starting to remember that as social media platforms like Pinterest, Instagram and YouTube reach record number of users and web traffic.

Leveraging the power of visual media

Humans are drawn to visual content, so how can businesses use this power of visual media to their own advantage?

Well, there are a few rules you could strive to live by when it comes to presenting your business to the world. These include:

  • Creating original visual content – originality is still the key when it comes to content.
  • Showcasing your business story – with images and video.
  • Not ditching words altogether – for example, images usually need captions to help get messages across.
  • Showing rather than telling – if you can get your information across visually, do so rather than turning to bundles of text.
